olympics

unless you've been living under a rock and have no access to social media or TV you must be aware that the 2014 olympics officially started today! i am actually obsessed with the olympics (more than i probably should be). yes i have downloaded three olympic apps, and yes my alarm is set for 5:55am so i can watch women's hockey tomorrow morning live, but i promise i'm not crazy. four years ago when the olympics were held in vancouver my parents surprised me and my siblings with tickets to a womens hockey game against switzerland and to a medal ceremony,at which we saw a female snowboarder get her gold medal, it was sooooo cool to sing O Canada that night! vancouver was surprisingly warm for it being february and the fact that EVERYONE was sporting canada's colors (or their own countries) made me feel less embarrassed about wearing my somewhat matching with my family hoodie and toque. i'd been to vancouver so many times but this was one of the coolest trips. everytime canada won a medal or even just at random times people would cheer and yell and laugh in the streets. i'd never felt/seen so much national pride! it gave me "warm fuzzies" inside. i guess i'm a sap. i'm not gonna lie, i definetly cried during the opening closing ceremonies for both vancouver AND london. i realize that even though the olympics cost A LOT of money and there are so many protesters and threats, they show that despite the fact that the world can be crazy people can still come together for a common purpose and get along (competitiveness aside) and i guess that seems sort of silly but i suppose i'm one of those "total world peace" dreamers. anyways i LOVE the olympics and i'm so excited to watch and cheer on the canadian athletes competing in sochi these next few weeks! i definetly have some of my favorite athletes that won gold in Vancouver and I'm excited to see how they do in sochi! so if you need me between now and feb. 23rd you know where to find me.....i'll be watching the olympics :) #GoCanadaGo #WeAreWinter
